The Normals are arguably the first punk band to emerge from the underground Montreal scene in 1977.  It was a short-lived affair, and they disbanded in 1978, leaving behind a wealth of punk rock anthems which were only documented on a poorly recorded demo and live cassette recordings. Drummer Tracy Howe went to form the post-punk Heaven Seventeen and later Rational Youth, Robert Labelle joined The American Devices and Scott Cameron assembled The Eighties with The Nils’ Carlos Soria. Thanks to the 2011 scrappy documentary MTL Punk : The First Wave, The Normals reformed, recorded and mixed their entire 16 song repertoire during the winter of 2011-2012.

34 years later, The Normals have finally released their debut album “Now Music Now”.  Loaded with trashing guitars and fueled by a caffeine induced rhythm section, In less than 37 minutes, The Normals roar through 16 songs including fan favourites like “Noisy Neighbours”, “Poseurs” and “Work To Rule” with the energy of bands 30 years their junior. Also making a special appearance is the song recorded and sung by film maker J.P. Laurendeau “Le sport c’est fasciste”, which was leaked to several campus stations during the 2012 Olympics. Now Music Now is 1977 punk rock for the kids of today.
