Siiiii. Ancient. CD.

The legendary Sheffield-based postpunk act Siiiii present ‘Ancient’, a collection of songs from their early years (1983-1986) that show clearly, that it’s possible to carry the much loved 80s sound into the new millenium. Melodic post punk, with warm bass lines and an impressing guitar-work were the ingredients of the success of Siiiii. ‘Re-discovered’ by Mick Mercer in 2005, they band re-united recently and is working on new material.

The drums are dominating, the bass specifies the tone, the guitar purrs to the whole here and there a bit, Paul’s varied voice-force offers very distinctive accents, sometimes aggressive, sometimes smooth. The more you listen to their sound, the more emerges that Siiiii were able to write fascinating, catchy and intoxicating masterpieces, varying from calm to danceable, from melancholic to aggressive, from airy to driving and oppressive. While songs like ‘Over’ or ‘Stillwaters’ are already considered to be ‘classic’s of the genre, there is much more to discover on this essential CD!
