The Project_Pale is fronted by Kingston NY's Jason Selden,
known to the drum n bass world as Glitch from the Chosen. Jason's guitars are
reminiscent of Jesu, Isis, and have an edge that comes from his tutelage under
Cynic's Paul Masvidal. Bass duties are covered by a familiar face to most Ohm
Resistance followers: Submerged. Rounding out the group is Brooklyn's
Sensi*star, aka Phillia Kim Downs, who vocalizes on
several of the albums tracks. Our Inventions and How They Fail
Us is an amazing debut
record from a newly formed group.
Running the gamut from upbeat synth rock to droning, shoegaze songs and always
with an undercurrent of metal and electronic music influence, the album does not sit
in one space quietly, but leads the listener on a journey
thru many styles and iterations of the guitar/bass/keyboards/vocals/drums chimera. Produced by Bill
Laswell, the album delivers, from the over the top synth melody of Driving These
Icy Roads, to the Pink Floyd-esque vocals on Pulled Out To Sea, to the
epic instrumental Transatlantic. Vocoder action, dubbed out mixes, and even the appearance of
a distinctly drum n bass reece line in a rock track power up
this Our Inventions and How They Fail Us creatively and leave you
wanting more. Released on Ohm
Resistance and available
May 4th, 2009.
