Defying convention is a double-edge blade. Along with ignoring the definition of genres, it means incorporating elements that will alienate some people from time to time. We have never felt that “doing any and all things possible to avoid identifying with anything mainstream” is the way to express ourselves musically. If you avoid experimenting with music in certain ways that you happen to gravitate towards, because you’re afraid of what people will think of you, then you are a sellout. Sellouts don’t have to be top 40 bands; they can be cliquey glitch-core artists too. My opinion is, if there’s anything aside from your own creativity molding the music you write (such as external factors, like money, or yourfriend’s / girlfriend’s opinions or desire to fit into a ‘scene’ that goes against what you want to do) then you might as well give up, because you’re not in control of what you do and you’re just going to end up producing regurgitated music. Released on D-Trash and available October 15th, 2006.
