Urceus Exit is the alter ego of Vancouver’s Richard
Duggan, a post-techno prophet who has been dropping self-releases on the west
coast for years, and who recently found a new home at Artoffact Records.
Described as intellectual, problematic, and fuzzylogical, Urceus Exit’s
electronics draw heavily on influences such as Leftfield, Underworld, Depeche
Mode, and Nine Inch Nails.
Contra looks at the world askew and asks if what is out of focus should be in
focus. Richard starts off slowly in bed, lights up our bedrooms with “Good
Morning Beautiful”, fires into heavy city-techno sounds with “Metro”, and
grooves his way into “Depravation” before finishing off with a whimper on
“Together”.
-“Free of any corporeal imperative, these numbers find Duggan reveling in the
nuances of modern sound design, creating an inorganic womb of sound that beckons
the listener.” -Martin Turenne (The Georgia Straight). Released on Artoffact
Records and available November 22nd, 2005.
